Use cognates and borrowed words to promote language comprehension and production especially with Novice learners 

Add cognates and borrowed words (words that share similar sound and meaning in L1 and L2) to the learning unit/lesson’s new words, in accordance with the unit theme and goals. These words will expand the learners’ vocabulary significantly (especially for Novice learners), help with reading and listening comprehension, and allow for greater and more varied production.
