Pritzat Derech (Hebrew for All)

Pritzat Derech Planning team members include Rebecca Ritter (The Shefa School), Dr. Esty Gross (Hebrew at the Center), Dr. Sarah Rubinson Levy (Project Director), Rabbi Andrew Ergas, EdD (Hebrew at the Center), Rabbi Marc Wolf (Prizmah), Dr. Scott Goldberg (MaDYK), Brian Coonley (Gateways: Access to Jewish Education).

The Pritzat Derech (Hebrew for All) initiative is designed to ensure that students with dyslexia and language learning challenges have access to Hebrew language, Judaism, and Jewish identity. This initiative aims to break through existing barriers by bringing together stakeholders to surface existing field knowledge, identify effective practices, develop necessary tools, and embed expertise that can be deployed throughout the community.

Launched in summer 2023, this multi-phased initiative is working towards:

  • Better knowledge and approaches on how to serve more students that is accessible to practitioners at the school and communal level, as well as the field in general.
  • Three new pieces of research addressing key research questions, each with direct applications to practice.
  • A Field Guide for practitioners informed by academic research, offering practical and applicable knowledge, information, and strategies.
  • Research-based training programs, initially developed for and offered to mentors and teachers/staff in our pilot communities with plans to expand access to all practitioners.

Note that while the focus of this initiative is on Jewish day school students (specifically early elementary), the findings of this work can impact all Hebrew learners.
